May Is Arthritis Awareness Month

Arthritis is the number one disabling disease in the US, affecting 1 in 5 adults and 1 in 250 children. Osteoarthritis is the most common type in which wear and tear conditions on the joints cause pain and stiffness. Rheumatoid and Psoriatic arthritis are autoimmune diseases which causes joint damaging inflammation. Arthritis is life impacting and can cause functional limitations in mobility, and postural issues are the root of the problem.

Good posture and good body mechanics are the keys to osteoarthritis prevention. Osteoarthritis can be slowed and prevented by improving bone and joint alignment, and balance and symmetry of muscles. That means everything you do from sitting to standing, walking, going up and down stairs, positions at work and at rest, can have an adverse effect on the body’s structure if you are misaligned. Chiropractic care, bodywork and exercise can help restore motion and alignment to keep a body more balanced.

Knowing what causes joint degeneration and pain and how to manage it is the key to living a quality life. Traumas, Thoughts and Toxins, or the 3 “t’s” are responsible for DISEASE, or DIS-EASE in the body.

Traumas can be cumulative and repetitive over a period of time, or can occur from an injury, like a car wreck or a fall. Thoughts, such as worry over family or work issues, negative self talk, and fear, can all cause stress and tension in the body. We are constantly exposed to toxins from the foods we eat, air we breath and household products we use everyday.

Managing these three “T’s, can help us deter the degenerative process of the body and help us live longer, healthier, quality lives.

This month we will be posting all things to help us stop and slow the progression of this disabling disease. We will be taking a mind, body spirit approach to managing and eliminating pain and illness from our bodies and our lives.

We hope you will join us on our journey to health and wellness.
