Can your sleeping position promote hunched shoulders?
The answer is YES.
Side sleeping is the worst position that promotes rounded (upper and lower) shoulders. This is because most of us curl up into a fetal position, which causes the shoulders to roll forward and the blades to pull away from the spine.
Sleeping on your back with your hands resting on your belly can also cause the shoulders to roll forward.
If you must sleep on your side, bring your head, shoulders and hips in a straight line and pull the blades in towards the spine so that your chest is open.
However, the best position is on your back with your palms up, arms 45˚ away from your body, and your shoulder blades squeezing towards the spine.
